| Correctional Services Corporation (GEO Group, Inc.) has recognized the rapidly growing market for privately managed correctional facilities and has begun to focus its efforts on expanding Federal procurement opportunities. The Federal Bureau of Prisons is operating over capacity. Along with that, Federal law has now authorized longer term contracts than ever before, thus resulting in more favorable financing alternatives for privatized development companies.
Under direct cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration & Customs Enforcement and Detention and Removal Operations, Correctional Services Corporation chose Pearsall, TX for its new location for South Texas Detention Complex. Willmar Electric Service, Corp. (WES) became the electrical subcontractor for the general contractor, J.E. Dunn. (WES has partnered with J.E. Dunn on other successful prisons over the past 10 years.) WES helped in the construction of South Texas Detention Complex by contracting for the electrical installation, which included running the conduit for all data systems (which were contracted to another company).
Each project is faced with its own set of challenges. This project was no different. To successfully complete the project, WES needed to address each challenge and effectively move forward. |
